A shower base is the floor of the shower which is sealed and slightly angled to direct access water into the drain of the shower without causing any puddles where mold and mildew can form. Often they are raised slightly around the edges and slope gently towards the drain.

A shower base can be made from a variety from a variety of materials from plastic which is designed to fit certain spaces or complete custom tile jobs which can cost thousands of dollars. Expect to pay from $200 to $500 for a nice model.

A one piece shower base which includes a drain and connection is often the easiest and most cost effective way of installing a proper shower and there are a number of different finishes, colors and styles in a wide variety of sizes and price ranges to suit any budget.
