A home steam shower is one of the best ways to enjoy hot steamy rooms and clean skin on a daily basis. They don't require a lot of extra work to install and can easily be completed with less than a thousand dollars of materials.

The most important aspect of a home steam shower is that the entire walls, ceiling and floor of the steam area has to be sealed from not only water but water vapor. Use at least 6mm polyurethane vapor barriers on all walls and ceiling making sure that edges overlap for a complete seal. Tile can be put on top of this.

A home steam shower can be a very enjoyable and relaxing experience, but if the steam is not sealed into the room it can wreak havoc on the structure and materials of the home. Wood will quickly rot, plaster and drywall will disintegrate even quicker and the steam shower will never quite get warm enough.
